The ‘Ducks’ star is the latest in a string of celebrity deaths that have been attributed to drug overdoses.
The show’s executive producer, Bill Prady, said Sunday on Fox & GMA that Robertson had recently died from a heroin overdose.
But his family had yet to release details.
Prady said the star had been in and out of rehab for two years, and had been a part of the show for seven years.
His wife, Nicole, said he had been clean for two months.
“He loved his family and his community,” Nicole Robertson said on Fox.
“I think he wanted to be on the show, so I know it was a big decision to say goodbye to him.”
The actor, who had been married to actress Nicole Kidman since 2007, has not appeared on the popular TV show.
He appeared on several episodes and appeared on The O.C.’s episode “Duck and Cover,” starring Chris Rock and Sarah Silverman.
